EDU:
Transforming Pits, Places and Public Health

Minimizing solid build-up. Maximizing the ease of liquid fraction management.

A animation for AKYAS EDU for 'Transforming pits into mini-treatment centres'. The animation features household toilets with a double-pit back-end system, where the 1st pit is installed with an EDU and 2nd an anaerobic filter. Visuals by AKYAS

Troubled by Frequent Desludging?

EDUs can help.

A fitting to reduce filling &
hence desludging frequency

The EDU separates fecal solids from liquids after a toilet room. It increases a pit’s filling time by 10X - 20X (by increasing solid-liquid ratio) under optimal conditions, making it ideal for flush or pour-flush toilets, densely populated environment, rainy places, and pits that are connected to greywater/ drainage pipes.

The EDU is suitable for a range different settings. Check out our matrix.

Enabling cleaner liquid for easier on-site treatment.

As the liquid fraction leaving the EDU is much cleaner and lower in organic load (than mixed wastewater/ blackwater), the subsequent treatment of it can be simpler & easier — it can be done in a more downscaled system (hence possible on-site) at a more effective way.

What Sets the EDU Apart

No behavoural change needed

The EDU is a backend system rather than a front-end interface. The implication is clear: users don’t feel it and no adoption friction.

Compatible with wet toilets

If flush or pour-flush toilets are used, or if the users are “washers” who uses water for cleansing — no problem, the EDU can capture liquids (of various flow rates).

A plumbing fitting that unlocks simpler and more effective treatments

Different contexts have their own special needs. Whether it’s a retrofit, an upgrade, or a new construction, our EDU helps you solve your problems at ease.
